Distinguished and Famous people from The Grampians Region
✈️ Sir Reginald Ansett
Reg Ansett built an early transport business from Hamilton, running a passenger service to Ballarat from 1931. Restrictions on road competition helped push him towards aviation, and a Hamilton–Melbourne air service began in 1936. The airline’s beginnings were far from effortless: flying lessons, displays and joyrides helped support the developing business. Ansett later moved his headquarters to Melbourne as the enterprise expanded. Hamilton’s place in the wider Grampians region gives it a direct connection with the practical beginnings of one of Australia’s best-known aviation businesses.
